A Laboratorytalk guide

Start with the news release Bulmers installs ABX Pentra 400 for testing sugar from Horiba Medical, which we summarised at the time by saying "Horiba Medical has placed the first ABX Pentra 400 bench-top chemistry analyser into the Bulmers Cider Mill in Hereford. ". Several months prior to that, we featured the news release Cardiff University selects Rudolph Research J57-SV from Spectronic Analytical Instruments: "Spectronic Analytical Instruments has supplied the Department of Pharmacology, Oncology and Radiology at Cardiff University with the latest Rudolph Research J57-SV (small-volume) refractometer.".

In March 2009, we covered the news from YSI (UK) - take a look at YSI will attend Focus 2009 which says: "YSI (UK) will exhibit its life-sciences products at The National Meeting of the Association for Clinical Biochemistry 2009 ('Focus 2009'), at Arena and Convention Centre, Liverpool, from 19-21 May. ".

Take a look also at the news release from Malvern Instruments, Protocols for measuring sub-nanometre particles, as well as Biochemistry Analyzer for key nutrients from YSI (UK), and Analysis of sugars in chocolate bars from Metrohm UK.

Latest stories...
Indispensible tool for food quality assurance (December 2007)

The YSI 2700 has become well-established in the food and beverage industry, helping companies to verify the quality of their product before it is packaged and sent to the customer

Cheaper QA analysis of sugars in chocolate bars (March 2007)

The analysis of the different sugars present in a bar of chocolate can reliably and affordably be quantified using pulsed amperometric detection (PAD) with the 817 Bioscan from Metrohm

Analysing the effect of enzymes in washing powders (January 2007)

Washing powders usually only contain one type of enzyme, though some have two or all three; the activity of these enzymes can be determined using a pH Stat titration

Water content in aspartame and cyclamate tablets (November 2006)

The heating method (oven method) together with Karl Fischer titration is used to determine the water content of tablets made of the artificial sweeteners aspartame and cyclamate

Analysis of sugars in chocolate bars (August 2006)

Sugars are carbohydrate - macronutrients - that serve as the main source of energy for the body

Water content in aspartame and cyclamate tablets (July 2006)

The heating method (oven method) together with Karl Fischer titration is used to determine the water content of tablets made of the artificial sweeteners aspartame and cyclamate

Separation of sugars by hydrophilic interaction (July 2006)

The separation of mixtures of complex sugars can be dramatically enhanced by the use of a stationary phase based on zwitterionic hydrophilic interaction chromatography (Zic-Hilic)

Determination of water in sweets (April 2006)

For products that do not release water readily, water content has been traditionally carried out by loss on drying (LOD) which can be slow; Metrohm has an answer using the Karl Fischer homogeniser
