Crude oil analyser combines DHA and Simdis

An AC Analytical Controls product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Nov 16, 2006

AC Analytical Controls (AC) introduces the AC crude oil analyser that combines DHA and Simdis techniques to provide an accurate crude oil analysis

High temperature simulated distillation (Simdis) is used to determine the boiling point range of crude oil.

As the crude oil sample is normally diluted with a solvent such as CS2 , there is a quenching effect that influences the accurate determination of the light end of a crude oil.

DHA technique.

The detailed hydrocarbon analysis (DHA) method uses a single capillary column technology equipped with a pre-fractionator conform IP 344 to characterize the front end in crude oil.

Merged DHA-Simdis technologies.

The innovative AC crude oil analyser combines the DHA and Simdis results into one report having the best performance in crude oil analysis.

The analyzer consists of a high temp Simdis application and a DHA front end application and complies with ASTM D 7169, IP 545 and prEN 15199-3.

Both applications use an Agilent Technologies 6890 series gas chromatograph equipped with a dedicated column, inlet or pre-fractionator, a flame ionisation detector and automatic liquid sampler.

A set of calibration and reference samples completes the applications.

The reference samples also include a dedicated crude oil sample.

The application software offers analysts a flexibility in selecting a gas chromatographic data system, as it operates on: ChemStation - Agilent Technologies, EZChrom Elite - Agilent Technologies/Scientific Software, and Atlas - Thermo Fisher Scientific.
