The new version adds hundreds of mathematical and technical symbols and templates, a toolbar and menu commands that turn Microsoft Word into a powerful maths word processor and web page editor.
MathType is now able to export all equations from a Word document as individual EPS, GIF, or WMF files, simplifying the workflow with page layout programs, such as QuarkXPress.
Other new features include colour support for professional publishing, unlimited undo, add/delete matrix rows and columns, mouse-wheel support, translators to Tex, Latex and MathML, and the company's new MathPage technology for converting whole Word documents to web pages that display and print high-quality mathematical notation.
"Anyone who's ever tried using the 'save as web page' feature for documents containing maths, knows that the results are less than desirable", said Paul Topping, the company's president.
"We wanted to give authors an easy way to create web documents with great-looking maths.
"The result, our MathPage technology, not only makes the process of putting technical documents on the web easy, the pages print beautifully", said Topping.
