Grams 8.0 offers workgroup enterprise
connectivity
Version 8.0 spectroscopy software enhances workgroup and enterprise connectivity via a full client/server update to Spectral DB, and features all-new web-enabled Envision viewing and reporting tool
Grams is relied on by spectroscopists worldwide for visualising, processing and managing data from FT-IR, NIR, Raman, UV-Vis, fluorescence, NMR and hyphenated (LC/GC-MS, LC/PDA) instruments from almost all leading manufacturers It allows laboratory scientists to process data from all their analytical instruments on a separate Windows PC, rather than taking up expensive instrument resources

The software automatically recognises and converts hundreds of different file formats, including instrument manufacturers' proprietary formats, into a unified common format to facilitate the comparison and reporting of analytical results.
Grams's use of open standards has made it the platform of choice for customers and third parties working in both regulated and unregulated environments.
Spectral DB, a unique desktop data management tool for organising spectra and chromatograms into a database, is now included with Grams 8 (it was previously available as a paid-for add-on).

Get encoder data into your PC
New cards from ComputerBoards allow encoder signals such as displacement data to be ported into PC applications without the need for add-on hardware - encoder support is built into the boards.
New guide to Computerboards range
The world's most comprehensive collection of PCI-bus compatible data acquisition boards, from leading developer ComputerBoards Inc, is listed in a new product guide from Adept Scientific.
With this new version, Spectral DB has been enhanced to integrate with Oracle and SQL Server, providing a secure analytical data management system that is scalable from individual users to entire organisations.
Capable of storing analytical data and chemical metadata, the new Spectral DB transforms an organisation's ability to organise, search and share its scientific information.
It retains its simple to use, configurable workbook format and now complete result sets can be exported seamlessly into Grams.
Also newly included in Grams 8.0 is Envision, a multi-format Microsoft .net instrument data viewer with the capacity to host plug-in processing and reporting modules.
Envision makes it easy for scientists to find, view, manipulate and report analytical data stored in many of the most popular formats.
Using XML-enhanced 'smart convert' technology, Envision adds support for more than 20 new data formats.
This allows scientists to work with 'live' spectral data on their desktops rather than relying on static snapshots or purchasing multiple workstation licences from several vendors.
"The addition of Envision provides a modern, standards-based platform for the integration of Grams instrument technology with ELN, Lims, and desktop applications," said David Joyce, Grams product manager at Thermo Scientific.
Dave Champagne, vice president and general manager of Thermo's informatics business added: "This update to the hugely popular Grams suite reinforces our commitment to this award-winning solution.
"We are particularly excited about the introduction of Microsoft .net technology, which is in line with the direction we are taking with our market-leading Lims products.
"This will provide customers with a broad suite of interoperable informatics solutions built on a common platform, greatly reducing complexity, risk, and overall cost of ownership".
Other new and enhanced features in Grams 8.0 include a tool that allows simple construction, manipulation and dissection of 3D data files; better data security based on Macrovision FlexNet, eliminating the need for hardware dongles; and significantly enhanced speed of operation, such as new Array Basic commands designed to rapidly construct 21 CFR Part 11 compliant multiple files.
Grams 8.0 and other components of the Grams spectroscopy software suite are available now from Adept Scientific. Request a free brochure from Adept Scientific ...
