Samson Rope selects Admet universal test
machine
Manufacturer of performance cordage has selected the Admet Expert universal testing machine for tensile testing cords, including nylon, polyester and Dyneema products
This is Samson's first use of Admet integrated materials testing systems The Expert test frame will be used to test cordage which may go into arborist, logging, industrial, or recreational marine applications

The new Admet 50kN Expert universal test frame replaces an older, 1960s vintage, manual system which had a lower capacity.
The Expert frame was modified with an extended column to accommodate the higher elongation properties of many of the synthetic fibres.
The tensile capacity was also increased to allow testing of a wider range of rope products as newer, stronger materials, such as Dyneema and other high modulus fibers, are replacing lower strength fibres, such as nylon and polyester.

"We use several universal testing machines with capacities ranging from 450kg to 500tonnes," commented Danielle Stenvers, Samson technical manager.
"We looked at several vendors, including machines from vendors that we already have, and found that Admet had the best price-performance for this testing capacity range.
"We were able to replace our 5000lb (2.2tonne) machine with a higher capacity, longer frame machine that had a small footprint and computer controls to meet our quality demands".
The new frame is equipped with the Admet Mtestwindows digital testing system, which controls the frame using programmed test routines, and digitally records and displays test results.
It can also output the results to spreadsheet or database applications.
Mtestwindows will be programmed with both standard cordage test routines and customised testing procedures as Samson will be utilising the machine for internal quality control as well as product development testing.
The machine will be used in testing hundreds of products and capacities, from individual fibres to twines to small ropes.

"The customised machine will meet their needs and the Mtestwindows testing system will allow them to easily add and modify automated testing procedures as they adapt current processes that require new tests".
