HPLC columns for ultra-fast protein
separations
Designed for low pH, high temperature and high flow rate separations, columns contain particles with a solid silica core surrounded by a thin outer layer of porous silica
Agilent Technologies Europe has introduced new Poroshell columns for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) The columns come in new phases and configurations to maximise the resolution and speed of analysis for researchers in LC or LC/MS applications

Now available in C3 and C8 phases as well as narrower microbore (1x75mm) configurations, these columns are ideal for intact protein separations and high-efficiency operation.
Designed for low pH, high temperature and high flow rate separations, the Poroshell columns contain particles with a solid silica core surrounded by a thin outer layer of porous silica.
This core reduces the protein diffusion distance, enabling faster separations while maintaining high peak efficiency at high flow rates.
Poroshell columns are especially suited for the needs of protein chemists.
In addition to dramatically reducing separation time while maintaining excellent chromatographic performance, the new columns provide additional selectivity and internal diameter options with even higher sensitivity and lower flow rates.
The Poroshell columns allow for MS analysis of intact proteins even in the presence of stabilizers and tissue culture media.
Molecular weight determination can now be accomplished on a standard Poroshell column with as little as 1-5pmol of protein.
These new columns are packed with the same 5µm particles as the Agilent Zorbax Poroshell 300SB-C18, ensuring high mechanical stability, long lifetime and excellent reproducibility, especially at low pH.
Relevant guard cartridges are also available in narrow-bore (2.1mm id) configuration.
Agilent Poroshell columns are available to order now.
For further information on the columns, request application note 'Using Poroshell 300SB-C18 for high-sensitivity, high-throughput protein analysis on the Agilent LC/MSD', publication number 5988-7031EN.
This note is available without charge from any Agilent sales office or its website.
