Upgraded liquid chromatograph/mass
spectrometers
New LC/MSDs have double the sensitivity of their predecessors, increasing ion transmission over a wide range of masses with extra gains at both the lower and upper ends of the mass range
Agilent Technologies Europe has introduced upgraded versions of the Agilent 1100 series LC/MSD VL and SL quadrupole mass spectrometers The LC/MSD (liquid chromatograph/ mass spectrometer detector) is Agilent's original benchtop LC/MS system

LC/MSDs are widely used in applications ranging from environmental analysis to food safety to forensics to drug development and QA/QC.
This is the third major upgrade to the LC/MSD since its introduction in 1997.
Improved ion optics and electronics increase sensitivity.
The new LC/MSDs have double the sensitivity of their predecessors - already some of the most sensitive quadrupole LC/MS systems available - thanks to improvements to ion optics, electronics, and a new high-energy-dynode detector.
The improvements increase ion transmission over a wide range of masses with extra gains at both the lower and upper ends of the LC/MSD's mass range.
This translates into both improved sensitivity and easier instrument tuning.
New vacuum system increases performance and enhances reliability.
The vacuum system has also undergone significant improvement.
Two turbomolecular pumps have been replaced by a single, split-flow turbomolecular pump.
The new pump provides better pumping in the ion optics region and simplifies the vacuum system.
This increases performance and is expected to increase reliability.
The enhanced Agilent 1100 series LC/MSD VL and SL mass spectrometers are available now.
