Agilent Technologies has announced the appointment of Nick Roelofs as vice president and general manager of its life sciences solutions unit

This Agilent business unit serves basic research, disease research and pharmaceutical markets, which include genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, drug discovery/development and pharmaceutical quality control/quality assurance "Nick understands the needs of scientists and scientific organizations, and what it takes from a business standpoint to successfully serve these markets," said Chris van Ingen, president, Agilent Life Sciences and Chemical Analysis

"We're glad he decided to join Agilent".

Roelofs brings 19 years of life science and diagnostics experience to Agilent.

Previously, he was group operations officer of Bio-Rad Laboratories's Life Science Group.

He has also served as chief operating officer of Stratagene and has held senior positions at ABI and Baxter Diagnostic.

His doctorate in organic chemistry is from the University of Nevada, Reno, and he holds a master of science in organic chemistry from Iowa State University.

At Agilent, Roelofs is responsible for product profit and loss of the business group that includes microarrays, liquid chromatographs, microfluidics, mass spectrometers used in life science, capillary electrophoresis and informatics.
