agilent technologies introduces the capillary GC plot column for improved oxygenated hydrocarbon analysis in chemical and petrochemical applications

Along with the new gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry platforms introduced at Pittcon 2007, Agilent Technologies introduced the GS-Oxyplot capillary GC column for analysing oxygenated hydrocarbons The GS-Oxyplot offers improved performance for analysing complex substances in chemical and petrochemical applications over liquid stationary phase columns

This porous layer open tubular (Plot) column provides reliable retention characteristics for oxygenated hydrocarbons such as alcohols, ethers, ketones and aldehydes encountered in hydrocarbon processing and other industries.

Its solid stationary phase provides stronger adsorption characteristics than columns using a liquid stationary phase, so that lower-boiling-point compounds will elute well after higher-boiling-point compounds.

Thus, chromatographers enjoy better qualitative and quantitative separations for oxygenates without interference.

"The new GS-Oxyplot column offers a unique solution for the chemical and petrochemical industries to analyze trace-level oxygenate impurities in complex matrices such as gaseous hydrocarbons, motor fuels and crude oil," said Philip Van Wormer, marketing manager, Agilent Columns and supplies division.

"It joins the portfolio of low-bleed Agilent J+W capillary columns for all GC applications, manufactured with the tightest industry QC specification for high column-to-column reproducibility, narrow retention index specifications and excellent thermal stability".

Combined with new capillary flow technology available through Agilent's 7890A GC, also introduced at Pittcon, the GS-Oxyplot provides optimal performance for ASTM methods designed for oxygenate analysis.

The GS-Oxyplot is available now.
