Agilent Technologies announces that Mike Slade joined the company on 1 July as head of research and development for the company's Assurance Solutions Division (ASD) in South Queensferry, Scotland

As head of research and development, Mike Slade will manage a team of more than 300 primary R+D engineers based in Scotland, China, India and the United States, working on network test, measurement and data management technologies for both wireless and fixed line customers all over the world Prior to joining Agilent, Mike held a number of senior positions in the software industry

He has a bachelor of science in computer science and cybernetics from the University of Reading, and his technical background covers the spectrum from systems level work in compiler design, communication protocols and operating systems to real-time mission critical systems.

He also has broad business skills gained from senior management positions in a variety of organisations, and earned his master of business administration from Cranfield University.

Welcoming Mike Slade to Agilent, Tom Walls, vice-president and general manager of Agilent's assurance solutions division, said: "I am delighted that Agilent has managed to attract an individual of Mike Slade's calibre to direct our research and development function.

"He joins us at a time when our industry is working closely with customers to meet the measurement challenges presented by third-generation mobile phones and new, more powerful wireless communications networks".

Commenting on his appointment, Mike Slade said: "I am pleased to be joining Agilent's Assurance Solutions team, the world leader in operational support systems for the telecommunications industry".

"I am looking forward to working with my colleagues to continue to build Agilent's reputation for excellence in the industry - network test has never been more important to telecoms operators than it is now, given the complexity of the new systems being introduced to handle 3G services.".
