NanoCeram has the capability of collecting ultra fine and nano size particles such as virus, endotoxins, DNA and other colloidal particles at high speeds The filter is a nano fibrous material that attracts and retains the particles owing to its highly electropositive surface

It has a large pore size (2 microns) but is capable of retaining 30 nanometre size virus to >99.9999%.

The filter's major advantage is that it has very high retention for such particulates at flow rates many hundreds of times greater than ultraporous membranes.

The result is a filter with very low back pressure suitable for rapid laboratory separations.

The unique filter is capable of retaining dissolved molecules such as dyes and other organics with electronegative functional groups.

That capability is clearly demonstrated by passing dye solutions such as metanyl yellow (molecular weight - 371) through a NanoCeram filter.

For instance, a diluted Epsom Ultra-chrome ink was diluted and passed through a NanoCeram syringe filter resulting in a water white effluent and a blue stained filter.

When the same ink was passed through a 25 nanometre membrane (which is difficult because of the high back pressure of ultraporous filters) the effluent was as just as blue and the membrane itself was hardly coloured.

The applications Argonide envisions include removal of colloidal particulates, sterilisation of drinking water, serums and biological fluids, filtration of DNA, RNA and endotoxins, chromatographic separation of macromolecules (nucleic acids and proteins) and immobilisation of cells and enzymes in biosynthesis.
