Electrochemical detector, a central component of LC-EC analysis for catecholamines and their metabolites and other compounds, can be provided through this new partnership

Since Agilent has recently stopped manufacturing the 1049A EC detector, channel partner AnaPlications has become distributor of Antec Leyden's EC detectors A partnership between the two companies assures optimal service for customers who were used to working with the Agilent 1049A EC detector, as AnaPlications packages the Antec Leyden ECD into an integrated Agilent 1100 system

The 'classical' application area for liquid chromatography - electrochemistry (LC-EC) is the analysis of catecholamines and their metabolites in biological matrices like blood, urine, and brain.

However, there are many more chemical compounds that can easily be analysed by LC-EC, such as morphine and analogues, drugs of abuse, environmental contaminants, pharmaceuticals, vitamins, food additives, carbohydrates and so on, with sensitivities ranging from sub-nanomolar to micromolar concentrations.

To attain such favourable detection levels the specific requirements for the combination of LC and EC must be well recognised and met.

Crucial instrumental parameters for LC-EC are a robust EC flow cell and low-noise electronic controller, a precisely fixed temperature, shielding, and a very smooth and accurate flow rate.

Antec Leyden's EC detectors have been developed with these issues in mind and are therefore equipped with an integrated, shielded column/flow cell oven.

The detector firmware allows all popular modes in LC-EC (DC, Pad and Scan) and full parametric control.

Nevertheless, operation is very simple and intuitive.

A Windows-based software package allows computer control.

For microbore and capillary LC-EC, Analytical Applications can deliver tailor-made EC solutions through Antec Leyden.

Of course, a stable and reliable analytical environment is determined by other components of the LC-EC system as well, as the pumping system usually is the decisive component for detection limits.

In short, AnaPlications says the excellence of an EC detector is highly determined by the other LC-EC modules, by the consumables like mobile phase and column as well.

In week 19 and 20 special customer workshops on the LC-EC detector will be organised free of charge by AnaPlications and Antec Leyden at the AnaPlications' office in Brielle, Netherlands.
