News release from Laboratorytalk http://www.laboratorytalk.com ____________________________________________________________ TESTING FOR JAUNDICE IN THE NEWBORN ____________________________________________________________ Date: 19 November 2001 News from: Sebia UK Product: Unistat bilirubinometer http://www.laboratorytalk.com/news/anc/anc103.html With reported cases of hyperbilirubinemia (jaundice) on the increase, routine, reliable testing for all neonates has become even more essential. The traditional prediction of serum bilirubin levels by visual clinical examination, however, has been shown in studies to be less than 40% accurate, further highlighting the need for valid screening. Using the Unistat Bilirubinometer, health professionals can now accurately determine in less than five seconds whether more extensive tests are required. Simple to use and calibrate, minimal training is required to operate the Unistat which includes diagnostic codes, a high-level check cuvette and an expanded measuring range. A disposable cuvette is filled with 20µl of undiluted serum, eliminating the errors which can often occur from time-consuming dilution. The cuvette is then inserted into the sample chamber and at the touch of a button results are shown on the LED display in under five seconds. Results of comparative studies have indicated that the Unistat is superior to other analysers, both in terms of performance and economy, matching HPLC for accuracy and reliability.
