New residual chlorine monitor offers reliability
The innovative Q45H Residual Chlorine Monitors from Analytical Technology (ATi) provide reliable measurements of chlorine in the food industry without the need for chemical buffering
Chlorinated water is commonly used in food processing applications in order to sterilise food, instruments and surfaces.
Food processing and manufacturing plants are now looking for new and effective methods of measuring effluent levels in chlorinated water, as acetate and phosphate buffers can be expensive and environmentally unfriendly.
Wastewater from food and beverage processing plants is strictly regulated by the Environment Agency and must be carefully monitored for potentially harmful reagents.
Unlike traditional colorimetric and amperometric monitors, the ATi Q45H monitors do not require the addition of chemical reagents, instead utilising a membrane-covered polarographic sensor to monitor chlorine levels.
The sensor is also resistant to many contaminants commonly found in water treatment, including iron, manganese and polyphosphate.
The sensor contained in the ATi Q45H Residual Chlorine Monitor has a response time of up to 10 times higher than that of conventional sensors.
This enables the monitor to provide reagent-free chlorine measurements for most water pH values found in the UK food industry.
For applications with variable pH values, the ATi monitor has an optional pH compensation feature to eliminate free chlorine error caused by process pH drift.
When the correct sensor is used, there is an extended response to chlorine at high pH levels, allowing pH correction to be employed over a much wider range.
ATi's range of Q45H monitors provides chlorine measurements that are as stable and active as traditionally buffered monitors, whilst removing the need for costly chemical reagents.
