High throughput genetic analysers
Two new production-scale DNA sequencing systems can operate unattended for 24 hours and are aimed at a wide range of sequencing and fragment analysis applications
Applied Biosystems has begun a phased introduction of two new production-scale sequencing systems The Applied Biosystems 3730 and 3730xl DNA analysrs offer unparalleled sensitivity and efficiency, provide greater read lengths and can operate unattended for 24 hours, longer than any other DNA analyser

High throughput nucleic acid purification
Applied Biosystems has released the ABI Prism 6100 nucleic acid PrepStation for high throughput purification of RNA and DNA, taking only 30 minutes to isolate total RNA from cells
They are ideal for a wide range of sequencing and fragment analysis applications including de novo and comparative sequencing and genotyping.
The 3730 analyser is a 48-capillary electrophoresis system that adds new advances in automation and optics to the core technology of the ABI Prism 3100 genetic analyser.
It can be upgraded to the 3730xl system, the 96-capillary successor to the ABI Prism 3700 DNA analyser.
Benefits of both systems include smaller sample volumes, optimised dye concentrations and a production capacity of more than double that of the ABI Prism 3700 DNA analyser, making large-scale sequencing projects faster and more affordable to perform.
Both instruments will be available through an early access programme expected to start in June and broader commercial release will follow later in the summer.
