Arabidopsis and drosophila assays for
PCR
Genomic assays for real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) gene expression analysis cover these two organisms, used respectively as models for plant science and human biology research
Applied Biosystems has expanded its TaqMan genomic assays for real-time PCR gene expression analysis to include arabidopsis and drosophila The new assays consist of ready-to-use probe and primer sets that are now available through the Applied Biosystems e-commerce website

High throughput nucleic acid purification
Applied Biosystems has released the ABI Prism 6100 nucleic acid PrepStation for high throughput purification of RNA and DNA, taking only 30 minutes to isolate total RNA from cells
These are said to be the first ready-to-use assays based on highly sensitive real-time PCR technology for arabidopsis, the standard model genome used in plant science and agriculture studies, and drosophila, a model organism for developmental biology studies with numerous implications for human disease research.
The Arabidopsis TaqMan gene expression assays include 95,000 assays for approximately 26,000 genes, while the Drosophila TaqMan gene expression assays include 38,000 assays for approximately 13,000 genes, designed around the well-characterised transcripts in the NCBI Reference Sequence Project (RefSeq) database.
The new assays run on Applied Biosystems's real-time PCR systems, including the 7300, 7500, and 7900HT systems, and complement the extensive collection of more than 500,000 gene expression assays.
