Open invitation to attend a discussion in Chicago on the Bioterrorism Bill as part of the American Council of Independent Laboratories annual meeting

The American Council of Independent Laboratories (ACIL) invites you to be its guest on Tuesday 8 October, 2:00pm to 3:30pm at the Hyatt Regency Chicago to hear Dr Robert Buchanan, director of the Office of Science, Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, explain the recently signed Bioterrorism Bill and discuss issues resulting from the development of the new Department of Homeland Security This is a topic of vital interest to all in the US food and pharmaceutical industry

Dr Buchanan, a graduate of Rutgers University with post-doctoral training in mycotoxicology from the University of Georgia, has spent 25 years teaching and conducting research in food safety.

In addition to currently serving as the FDA CFSAN senior science advisor, he also served as deputy administrator for science with the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.

Dr Buchanan is a member of the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine committee on emerging microbial threats, and is on the editorial boards of several journals.

This programme, offered by the ACIL Microbiology and Analytical Chemistry Section, is part of the 65th annual meeting of the American Council of Independent Laboratories being held in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency Chicago from 5-8 October 2002.
