Reaction block provides a safe alternative to oil baths and mantles, posing a lower fire risk and making clean-up of glassware far easier

Intended for running small scale single and multiple parallel reactions, the DrySyn Multi is supplied with an insert kit that allows various combinations of standard glassware to be utilised - from 10ml tubes to 100ml flasks With companies and universities constantly improving safety standards, the oil bath is an unnecessary hazard in chemical synthesis work

The new DrySyn Multi reaction block from Asynt provides a safe alternative without compromising either performance or versatility.

The anodised aluminium construction ensures efficient and even heating across the block to temperatures in excess of 200C.

Drug discovery company Tripos Discovery Research is already convinced of the advantages of DrySyn technology.

having purchased multiples of both the DrySyn Classic baths and large scale DrySyn Maxi baths for its state-of-the-art laboratories in southwest UK.

According to Peter Maunder, group leader, scale-up chemistry: "Our existing DrySyn units have proved themselves with their ability to outperform the heat conducting properties of oil baths.

"They pose a far lower fire risk and their use makes the clean up of glassware far easier as there is no residual oil contamination on the outside of the flasks.

"They fit our policy of ensuring a safer, cleaner, healthier working environment".

According to Martyn Fordham of Asynt, the DrySyn concept has met with similar approval elsewhere: "Medicinal chemistry labs in particular are under real pressure these days and the DrySyn enables health and safety levels to be raised.

"One major pharma company has been so pleased that it is providing each chemist with an individual unit, while another reports that the DrySyn now enables it to perform reactions at over 200C which were previously banned in oil baths".

The DrySyn Multi is easy to adopt, says Asynt - the base unit can be fitted to any standard hotplate stirrer including the popular IKA and Heidolph brands.

Once in use the reactions are highly visible due to the contrast provided by the silver anodised finish.

Another important aspect of DrySyn Multi is its environmental friendliness - there is no silicon oil to dispose of, nor are users exposed to hazardous fumes.
