Sandwich measures colour temperature

Silicon PIN photodiode sandwich detector enables ratio of currents from the two photodiodes to be used to remotely determine and monitor the colour temperature of an object

AP Technologies announces the SD138-11-31-211 silicon PIN photodiode sandwich detector from Advanced Photonix.

The SD138-11-31-211 features two silicon PIN photodiodes vertically integrated in a hermetic TO-5 package.

The top photodiode absorbs a portion of the incident light while the remaining light passes through and is detected by the bottom detector.

The photodiodes offer a large active area combined with low noise, high shunt resistance, and high saturation levels.

System designers can use the ratio of the currents from the two photodiodes to remotely determine and monitor the colour temperature of an object.

By utilising unique processing of the photodiodes, API is able to offer a device with excellent linearity ratio in the photocurrents of the two detectors - a prerequisite for accurate colour temperature measurement, along with tightly controlled device-to-device and batch-to-batch uniformity.

Advanced Photonix specialises in the design and manufacture of optoelectronic assemblies incorporating silicon and InGaAs detectors, light emitting diodes, optical filtering, temperature control, and electronics such as amplification and DSP.
