High throughput platform for chemotaxis, migration and invasion assays has a universal 96-well format that is compatible with most commercial detectors, fluid handling and robotic handling instruments

BD Biosciences has recently launched the BD Falcon HTS FluoroBlok 96-multiwell insert system, a high throughput platform for chemotaxis, migration and invasion assays This real-time fluorescence system has a universal 96-well format that is compatible with most commercial detectors, fluid handling, and robotic handling instruments

Its unique microporous membrane, available in pore sizes of either three or eight microns, blocks the transmission of light between 490 and 700nm, giving the user a wide choice of fluorophores for cell labelling as well as the opportunity to perform multiplex detections.

Erroneous readings due to background fluorescence and inter-well contamination are virtually eliminated thanks to the black housing around the 96-multiwell insert and the novel design of the receiver plate.

The pitch in the FluoroBlok plate is the same as a standard 96-well plate so an instrument can be programmed to take readings from the centre of the wells and, as only a fraction of the media is used compared to existing 24-well inserts, the cost per assay is reduced by approximately 50%.

This system is an ideal addition to any busy laboratory that needs to speed up and streamline its workflows.
