Measuring the durability of elastomers

A Benz Materials Testing Instruments product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Jan 9, 2004

Fatigue-to-failure tester measures and records the number of extensions that can be withstood by up to 32 individual elastomeric samples, allowing researchers to compare compounds

The new Benz fatigue-to-failure tester (FF 2100) accurately measures and records the number of extensions that elastomeric samples can withstand.

With the FF 2100, researchers and QC engineers compare compounds.

They can test them under extreme environmental conditions and can pretreat and test samples to determine the effects of various pretreatments.

They can test for consistency in sample lots and consistency between lots.

The FF 2100 has 32 stations, allowing 32 samples to be tested and compared simultaneously.

It is PC-controlled.

Realtime cycles can be displayed on a monitor and histograms of sample groups can be displayed and printed out.

An optional environmental chamber can test samples at elevated or depressed temperatures.

The FF 2100 runs automatically as fast as 500 cycles per minute.

An operator simply loads the samples and lets it run.

Failures at individual stations are recorded on the PC.

The FF 2100 is sometimes used in conjunction with a rheometer to test the cure rate, a viscometer to test viscosity, a durometer to test hardness, a specific gravity tester to determine specific gravity, a block oven to alter characteristics, and a tensile tester to determine tensile strength.

The combination of Benz material testing instruments allows a complete analysis of elastomers.

The FF 2100 is Windows native.

It uses Benz's proprietary Benzwin 2000 software, included with the FF 2100.

The FF 2100 conforms to ASTM D471 (Rubber properties - effect of liquids) and ASTM D865 (Rubber - deterioration).

Built of anodised aluminum and epoxy-coated stainless steel, the Benz fatigue-to-failure tester carries an extensive one-year parts and labour warranty.

Only 51cm wide, it stands 51cm high and 38cm deep.
