Bio-Rad Laboratories is hosting its second international conference on Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies, which will take place on Thursday 14 November 2002, from 2pm to 6pm at Paris Congrès (salle Equinox).

This second conference will provide a forum for participants to discuss the latest advances in prion disease research.

Inputs will be given from leading international scientific experts in areas such as new epidemiological and physiopathological data, transmission via blood transfusion, and spongiform encephalopathy in sheep.

Confirmed speakers to date and brief discussion areas include: Physiopathology of TSEs - Adriano Aguzzi (University of Zurich).

Epidemiology of TSEs - Richard Knight (University of Edinburgh).

Replication model - Sylvain Lehmann (Health and Medical Research National Institute, Paris).

Sheep TSE - Jacques Grassi (Atomic Energy Commission, Paris).

During the afternoon the conference will also explore the major challenges currently facing screening programmes.

Key players involved in surveillance will shed light on European plans for monitoring epidemiology in cows and sheep, the work of reference laboratories, worldwide BSE risks, and the new threat of Chronic Wasting Disease in antlered animals.

There is no delegate fee, however registration is required as places are limited.
