Constant laboratory power at up to 60V
Power supply offers higher output current at lower output voltages, unlike a conventional bench supply giving a power capability that decreases directly as the output voltage increases
TTi (Thurlby Thandar Instruments) has enhanced its best-selling CPX400 laboratory DC power supply with a new model with an extended voltage range The new model, designated CPX400A, retains the 840W power capability of the CPX400, but can supply up to 60V instead of the 42V maximum of the previous model

The TTi PowerFlex design offers a constant-power capability allowing higher output current at lower output voltages, unlike a conventional bench supply with a fixed current limit giving a power capability that decreases directly as the output voltage increases.
The design of the CPX400A enables higher currents to be generated at lower voltages within an overall power limit envelope.
Each output can provide 60V at a maximum current of 7A.
As the voltage setting is reduced, the output current capability increases up to a maximum of 20A.
This is achieved by using a mixture of switch-mode and linear technologies.
Special techniques are used to achieve noise and RFI figures comparable with those of good linear power supplies, allowing the CPX400A to be used with confidence in sensitive environments.
The CPX400A is a dual-output unit with two completely independent and isolated outputs, each with a 420W capability.
The outputs operate in constant-voltage or constant-current mode with automatic crossover and mode indication.
Each output has its own on/off switch.
If required, the outputs can be wired in series or in parallel to achieve voltages of up to 120V or currents of up to 40A.
A choice of remote or local sensing is selected via a front panel slide switch.
Remote sensing is essential for users of higher current power supplies who need to ensure good regulation at the load, independent of connection leads.
The new power supply is designed and manufactured to meet the latest safety and EMC standards.
Comprehensive protection includes an adjustable overvoltage trip for each output.
This can be accurately set anywhere in the range from 3.5 to 67V.
The CPX400A is housed in a compact and robust steel case which is half-rack width and takes up very little bench space.
The unit measures 210x130x350mm and weighs 7kg.
The CPX400A costs £811 (plus VAT) in the UK.
