Inexpensive, low volume dispensing for HTS

A Biochrom product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Oct 1, 2002

Save on reagent volumes with this cost-effective solution to low volume bulk reagent dispensing for high throughput screening

The drive towards lower volumes in HTS is not only because of the trend towards higher plate densities - the 1536 well plate - but also because of the extremely high cost of some screening reagents.

On the other hand, the very high cost of alternatives like microarrays has motivated drug developers to look for ways of improving the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the existing technology.

Some commercially available low volume/high density dispensers are very expensive, or inflexible in format.

Developed in collaboration with Astra Zeneca, the new Asys Flexispense HT from Biochrom provides a cost-effective solution to low volume bulk reagent dispensing for HTS.

Reagent volumes down to 2µl are dispensed with high accuracy (+/-1%) and precision (<5% CV at 6µl) and at high speed (16 secs for a 1536 well plate).

The unit accommodates 96, 384 and 1536 well plates and is robot-friendly, with plate access from top, side or front.

A long life, ceramic piston pump ensures high precision over time, and the completely inert liquid path makes for low contamination and easy cleaning.

The low dead volume and pump-back in the system minimise waste of expensive reagent.
