The original texture analyser

A Brookfield Viscometers product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Nov 22, 2002

Stand-alone unit ideal for implementation within the research or production environments, where gel strength and rigidity need to be measured

CNS Farnell, now a division of Brookfield, has a 40 year heritage in texture analysis evolving from the original 1960s Boucher jelly tester and pathfinding Steven's texture analysers.

The LFRA texture analyser was the original apparatus developed for replacement of the Boucher and Bloom gelometer instruments.

The popularity of the LFRA TA throughout the past two decades can be directly attributed to its simple operation and accuracy.

The Gelatin Manufacturers of Europe (GME) and the Gelatin Manufacturers Institute of America (GMIA) have helped facilitate the development and adoption of the LFRA TA.

Their recognition has led to inclusion of the LFRA TA within the Official Procedure of the GMIA for Bloom gel strength.

This procedure was accepted as the standardised method in July 1998 across Europe, North America, South America, Japan, and many other countries.

Since its launch in 1978, the LFRA texture analyser has undergone continuous improvement and enhancement in line with the requirements of modern manufacturing.

CNS Farnell now introduces the 3000 series of LFRA texture analysers.

These analysers have an increased load range of up to 1500g, position accuracy to 0.02mm, force sensitivity of 1g or 1 Bloom number and greatly improved data acquisition.

The LFRA TA 3000 series continues to work has a stand-alone unit ideal for implementation within the research or production environments, where gel strength and rigidity need to be measured.

The full potential of the apparatus is only harnessed when used in conjunction with the TA computer interface software, which clearly identifies and automatically quantifies key physical properties including Bloom strength, hardness, rupture or break strength, stress relaxation, adhesion, stickiness, yield point, etc.

The LFRA TA is an extremely versatile, accurate and useful piece of equipment for both the laboratory and the production environment.

The apparatus is by far the most cost effective and simple method for gel type assessment as well as a comprehensive range of other ingredients and finished products.
