NMR Metabolic Profiling Database contains information on the most common endogenous metabolites in body fluids, and information on known metabolites of some over-the-counter drugs and selected foods

Bruker BioSpin introduces the NMR Metabolic Profiling Database (DB) for metabolite identification and quantification It contains information on the most common endogenous metabolites in body fluids, such as urine, blood and cerebral spinal fluid, as well as information on known metabolites of some over-the-counter drugs and selected food components

The entries represent comprehensive NMR data for the metabolites including measurements at a number of different pH levels.

Special emphasis is placed on 2-D NMR experiments due to the complexity of biofluid spectra.

The new Metabolic Profiling DB was developed through a collaboration between Bruker BioSpin, major food and pharmaceutical companies and leading universities in the field of metabolomics.

It enables researchers to identify and quantify compounds, while also permitting users to expand and customize the database by adding their own proprietary compounds - a valuable feature in drug and disease research.

"A comprehensive database of reference compounds in biofluids is an absolute requirement for our daily work in metabolic profiling and fingerprinting," states Sunil Kochhar, one of the leading experts in Nutritional Metabolic Research at the Nestle Research Center, Lausanne, Switzerland.

The NMR Metabolic Profiling DB augments the integrated Metabolic Profiler from Bruker BioSpin and Bruker Daltonics - a system that combines NMR with time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometry (MS) for data acquisition, metabolite identification and statistical model building.

The Metabolic Profiler system is particularly applicable for toxicity and efficacy studies in pre-clinical and clinical development in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries.

"The study of metabolites is gaining importance in drug discovery and development, clinical research as well as food quality screening," explained Manfred Spraul, director of applications for Bruker BioSpin .

"NMR-based metabolic profiling provides an unbiased overview of the temporal metabolic condition of a subject".

"The new NMR Metabolic Profiling DB allows rapid and accurate metabolite identification in the case of abnormalities".
