Bruker AXS, Bruker Daltonics and Bruker BioSpin announce a new initiative aimed at offering customers integrated solutions for structural genomics

The technologies of the three companies - X-ray crystallography, mass spectrometry and NMR spectroscopy - are all important tools in the determination of protein structure on a genome-wide basis A new proteomics research information management system (Rims), introduced earlier this year, integrates data acquisition and analysis for the different proteomic methods

Bruker AXS products in this new initiative include Crystal Farm for crystal incubation and optimization, the BruNo automated crystal handling and retrieval system and the Microstar microfocus, high brilliance, X-ray generator.

Bruker Daltonics Maldi and ESI mass spectrometers provide high sensitivity for high-throughput proteomics applications, enabling confirmation of the covalent structure of proteins and the analysis of co- and post-translational modifications.

Bruker BioSpin provides a range of NMR tools for protein structure solution, including the Avance series of spectrometers with field strengths up to 900MHz, CryoProbe cryogenically cooled NMR probes and the CryoFlowProbe for direct analysis of expression solutions.

The Proteomics Rims software acquires and manages data from all of these instruments and combines the techniques and data into one database for enhanced mining.

The software also enables the user to automate work and data flows.

"The Bruker companies have the unique capability to supply cutting-edge instrumentation that spans the entire range of analytical methods used in structural genomics," explained Frank Laukien, president and CEO of Bruker BioSciences and BioSpin.

"By working together to offer integrated solutions, we can provide increased functionality that is more cost-effective for the customer.".
