Bruker BioSpin announced the world's first 700MHz wide-bore UltraShield Plus magnet at Pittcon 2004, taking wide-bore active shielding magnet technology to new field strength heights

This new NMR magnet sets a new upper field strength record for the company's actively-shielded wide-bore magnet product line, and features the smallest magnetic stray field of any ultra-high field wide-bore magnet system The 89mm wide bore allows the use of certain larger diameter probes for solid-state experiments as well as for MRI and molecular imaging of small objects and animals

The new 700/89 UltraShield Plus magnet's proprietary active-shielding technology significantly reduces stray fields, while efficiently screening external field perturbations.

The magnet's compact design enables this new wide-bore magnet to fit into the same size cryostat as the company's 54 mm standard-bore 700MHz magnet.

This physical design, combined with the small stray field, allows the 700/89 UltraShield Plus magnet to be sited in standard, single-storey labs.

Previously, the highest field strength wide-bore magnet that would fit into a single-storey lab was 600MHz.

"This new 700/89 UltraShield Plus magnet demonstrates our on-going development of technological advances in NMR magnets, and will further expand the application of solid-state NMR and molecular imaging," commented Mark Chaykovsky, executive vice president of Bruker BioSpin.

"We are introducing wide-bore capability at 700MHz and coupling it with the advantages of our proprietary UltraShield Plus magnet technology, which makes it safe and easy to site and install.".
