Expertise features at drug delivery
conference
Drug delivery device specialist Bespak presented a research paper and three posters at this year's Drug Delivery to the Lungs conference in London on 9 and 10 December 2004
The paper, 'Targeting different regions and tissues in the nose using air stream technology', reveals how Bespak is researching the means to maximise the therapeutic effect of various drug formulations by targeting specific areas of the nasal cavity Using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) data and rapid prototyping techniques, Bespak has developed an anatomically correct model of the nasal cavity from which it has built up expertise in the area of nasal deposition

Bespak welcomes European approval of Exubera
Bespak, in conjunction with Nektar Therapeutics, has developed the manufacturing process for Exubera's inhalation device which it will manufacture at its purpose designed facility in Milton Keynes
This research is further discussed in the company's poster presentation - 'Development and validation of an in vitro method for the determination of regional particle deposition in the nasal cavity'.
Bespak also delivered a poster presentation on the sizing of aerosols by laser diffraction, in which the in-house validation of the measurement of droplet size was discussed as a case study.
The fourth presentation discussed the methods employed to ensure that the elastomers used in the production of drug delivery devices meet regulatory requirements.
The expertise developed by Bespak in this field has resulted in faster extraction methods that minimise the volume of solvents used.
"Bespak employs some of the most highly qualified scientists and engineers in the industry" commented Chris Hall, general manager of respiratory at Bespak.
"These presentations demonstrate our position at the forefront of the development of new drug delivery technologies.".
