Compact chemistry analyser has big potential
With a small footprint and the ability to process 1200 tests per hour, it delivers the full benefits of random access automation to laboratories with low to mid-volume workload requirements
The Advia 1200 chemistry system from Bayer Diagnostics is designed to meet the needs of laboratories seeking a compact yet highly productive analyser for routine, esoteric or back-up chemistry processing.
First unveiled at the ACB Focus Meeting in May 2004, Advia 1200 was made commercially available to customers in the UK and Ireland on 28 October 2004.
Combining a small footprint of just 1.04m2 with the ability to process a broad range of tests at the rate of 1200 per hour, it delivers the full benefits of random access automation to laboratories with low to mid-volume workload requirements.
It will also be of interest to satellite, research and specialist laboratories or any hospital clinical chemistry department where space is at a premium.
Using the same reagent chemistries as Bayer's well-established Advia 1650 and Advia 2400 analysers, Advia 1200 is said to be ideal for use as a back-up to these larger systems in addition to its stand alone capabilities.
With a comprehensive menu of photometric and ISE methods currently available, plans to rapidly expand the menu over the next six months are well underway.
In addition, 62 of the analyser's 100 channels are user-configurable for maximum flexibility in application.
Availability of reagents in small pack sizes (20ml or 40ml) will make it easier for laboratories to minimise wastage, with cost-effectiveness further enhanced by the system's low water consumption of only 20l per hour.
Other benefits of the Advia 1200 include minimal maintenance requirements (less than five minutes per day), plus dedicated Stat facilities which are enhanced by a real-time results monitor for fast reporting.
"This new analyser provides the throughput and reliability that laboratories need to keep pace with peaks in testing demand", says Bayer's chemistry marketing manager, Julia Nisbet.
"In any setting where size and speed matter, Advia 1200 will deliver.".
