Utilising the same proven technology as its highly-acclaimed big brother, the Advia Centaur CP will perform automated random access immunoassay testing at the rate of 180 tests per hour

A high-specification yet compact version of Bayer's Advia Centaur immunoassay system will be available for use in UK and Irish laboratories from September 2005 to meet the requirements of low- to mid-volume workloads.

Utilising the same proven technology as its highly-acclaimed big brother, the Advia Centaur CP will perform automated random access immunoassay testing at the rate of 180 tests per hour, yet will occupy a mere 107x74cm on the laboratory bench.

28 immunoassay methods will be available for use on the Advia Centaur CP at the time of its launch, comprising thyroid, anaemia, fertility, cardiac and oncology panels.

Included in the oncology panel will be Bayer's complexed prostate specific antigen (cPSA) method which, it says, offers higher specificity than total PSA for the detection of prostate cancer.

An ongoing programme of assay development for the Advia Centaur CP is geared towards the addition of comprehensive therapeutic drug monitoring and infectious disease panels at a later date.

The oncology panel will also be extended to include Bayer's innovative method for the measurement of the oncogene HER-2/neu in serum, which has potential to assist in detection, therapeutic decision-making and treatment monitoring for patients with metastatic breast cancer.

"The Advia Centaur CP will deliver the reliability and performance of Advia Centaur in a smaller, more compact package", comments senior product manager for Bayer's immunoassay and molecular diagnostics, Fiona Howe.

"Whether used on its own in low-to-mid volume laboratories or as a back-up to the Advia Centaur in larger pathology departments, it is designed to provide maximum capability with the minimum of fuss.".
