Another stitch in the Bayer tapestry

A Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics product story

What's the connection between the launch of a compact immunodiagnostics analyser, the first Arpanet links, and the first hot air balloon flight? The date: 21 November

On 21 November 2005, staff at Bayer in Newbury, UK, helped to mark another major event in the 'Bayer Tapestry', when they attended the UK launch of the Advia Centaur CP, the latest compact immunodiagnostics analyser from Bayer Diagnostics.

The event was also the anniversary of some other memorable events that took place on that day:.

1620 - Pilgrim Fathers reach America.

1783 - First manned flight in a hot air balloon made by French physicist Jean Francois Pilatre de Rozier.

1877 - Thomas Edison announced his invention of the phonograph.

1969 - The first link between the Arpanet nodes (military network widely regarded as the precursor of the internet).

1977 - First flight of Concorde from London to New York.

Everyone who attended the Newbury event was given a signed and numbered 'One Day in History' charter to mark their attendance.

The high-specification yet compact version of Bayer's Advia Centaur immunoassay system meets the requirements of low- to mid-volume workloads.

Utilising the same proven technology as its highly-acclaimed big brother, the new Advia Centaur CP performs automated random access immunoassay testing at the rate of 180 tests per hour, yet has a small footprint of 107x74cm.

"The Advia Centaur CP delivers the reliability and performance of Advia Centaur in a smaller, more compact package", says Fiona Howe, senior product manager for immunoassay and molecular diagnostics.

"It can be used on its own in low-to-mid volume laboratories or as a back-up to the Advia Centaur in larger pathology departments, providing maximum capability and flexibility".
