Amplifier converts strain gauges efficiently

A Celsum Technologies product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Jul 18, 2003

Conditions the signals from up to four strain gauge devices and transforms them into a choice of industry-standard analogue signals

The SGA strain gauge amplifier, now available from Celsum Technologies, is an extremely cost-efficient, flexible, and compact yet rugged solution to conditioning the signals from up to four strain gauge devices and for transforming them into a choice of industry-standard analogue signals.

The SGA is available as a DC-powered unit (SGA/D), and as a mains-powered instrument (SGA/A), though the latter version allows dual use of a DC power supply, for example to protect against mains failures.

The SGA may be programmed to handle almost any type of strain-gauge based sensor with sensitivities between 0.1 and 30mV/V, and is provided with switchable low-pass filters to allow extraneous noise from, for example, mechanical vibration and electrical sources, to be eliminated from the signals over the frequency range 1Hz to 5kHz.

The excitation voltage for the strain gauges is built into the robust, surface-mount, single-board design.

The SGA provides simultaneous current and voltage outputs, and has user-selectable output ranges of +/-10V, +/-5V, 0-5V, 0-10V, 0-20mA and 4-20mA.

The output may be offset by up to +/-70% of full scale range.

The SGA has full CE approval, has a three-year manufacturer's warranty, and is mounted in an IP65 ABS field case with cable glands - though it is available as the bare PCB too.

The units are extremely useful for research and development, process monitoring and control, and for educational applications.

The SGA units are available on short delivery times, and may be purchased from Celsum by credit card using the PayPal system, or by all conventional means.

Other instruments available from Celsum include digital strain gauge amplifiers and process controllers, temperature controllers, sapphire window optical windows, extrusion dies and materials testing instruments.
