Standalone datalogger at reduced price

Eight channel, 12-bit data logger developed originally for undersea applications is available for only £800 in one-off quantities - less than half its original price

The 2HDL8, a compact and reliable eight-channel 12-bit data logger developed originally for undersea applications at depths (in a suitable housing) to 3000m, is now available from Celsum Technologies for only £800 in one-off quantities, less than half its original price This price cut has been possible because of economies of scale permitted by manufacture in greater numbers

The data logger may be used in standalone mode, where it can be left in situ for several months, then recovered and the data downloaded and processed, or else the logger may be configured in hardwired mode and periodically interrogated by a host computer.

The instrument, which is supplied on a printed circuit board measuring only 50x320mm, is available with a choice of onboard memory of 128 or 256Mbyte.

The 2HDL8 is configured prior to deployment using a computer and the supplied software, and, similarly, data is downloaded and displayed after recovery using a computer.

A whole range of sensors may be accommodated, for example temperature sensors, inclinometers, strain gauge devices (eg pressure, tension, load), single- and multi-axis accelerometers, magnetic direction etc As long as an analogue signal of 2.5V full scale can be supplied to the recorder, the data may be monitored.

The sampling rate is programmable between 2 and 30Hz, and the system has a programmable start and may be programmed to sleep between bursts of high-speed data recording.

As an example of duration with different logging profiles, scanning four channels with 128Mbyte of memory onboard would allow 24 days of continuous logging, 460 days at 20 minutes logging every six hours, and 600 days at 20 minutes logging every two hours.

The 2HDL8 has a wide range of applications in the laboratory, on process plant and in the field, and is suitable for research and development projects as well as for incorporating into other products by OEMs.

Said Celsum Technologies director Roy Carter: "These compact data loggers complement our other product ranges of signal conditioning equipment and laboratory instruments. Request a free brochure from Celsum Technologies ...

"There are many applications for them in a wide range of fields.".
