Producing 8mW at 375nm and designed for applications such as biological and chemical detection, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and semiconductor test and measurement

Coherent releases the Radius 375-8, a compact, solid-state, ultraviolet diode laser system Producing 8mW of continuous-wave (CW) output at 375nm, the Radius 375-8 has been designed for applications such as biological and chemical detection, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and semiconductor test and measurement

"We originally developed the Radius 375-8 for bio-detection, due to the fluorescence properties of molecules at near-UV, but its 8mW of output makes it ideal for many applications," said Daniel Callen, product manager for laser diode modules.

"For example, the system is well-suited for blood diagnostics, where it is replacing, in wavelength specific applications, argon ion lasers that have historically dominated the market.

This is especially true in the OEM or systems part of the market.

With this Radius, we're offering an alternative technology that's smaller, rugged, easy to use, and provides a much lower cost of ownership compared to ion lasers." Based on InGaN technology, the Radius 375-8 is a reliable, UV source that comes complete with a laser head, control box and power supply.

Measuring just 1.75 inches by 8.6 inches, its cylindrical housing is easy to integrate and mount.

The system is also uniquely shielded against mechanical shock and electrostatic discharge (ESD)-the greatest threat to diode laser life.

Cooled for stability and long lifetime, the Radius 375-8 features a large thermo-electric cooler with a bi-polar linear drive, and an internal cooling fan with anti-vibration mounting.

Built-in electronics drive all aspects of the system.

"The Radius 375-8 provides UV output from a compact, efficient, easy-to-use device," said Callen.

"We've engineered these qualities into a fully contained laser, so the user does not need to worry about costly power supplies or heat dissipation.".
