Coherent has introduced the Paladin 355-8000, the first commercial, quasi-CW laser to deliver 8W of output at 355nm

Since its release in 2003, the Paladin 355-4000 has earned an outstanding reputation for reliability and long lifetime in commercial applications The increased power of the Paladin 355-8000 will now enable faster throughput and higher resolution for commercial applications such as laser direct imaging (LDI) of PC boards and computer-to-plate (CTP) production in reprographics

As the first laser of its type to achieve this power level, it will also enable applications in the semiconductor and flat panel industries.

The Paladin 355-8000 utilises the same design approach as the field-proven 4W version, yielding long lifetime, a wide temperature and humidity operating range, and hands-free operation in harsh industrial environments.

This is achieved by employing patented Permalign manufacturing technology to deliver a robust, contamination-free, hermetically sealed package, and by using AAA (aluminum-free active area) pump diodes that are fibre-coupled at the power supply.

The compact and modular OEM design enables easy integration and serviceability.

These characteristics, together with the design's inherent high efficiency, result in lower overall cost of ownership compared to competitive solid-state and argon-ion lasers.

The Paladin 355-8000 offers the same outstanding output performance specifications as the Paladin 355-4000.

The opto-mechanical design of the Paladin 355-8000 ensures that these specifications are consistently maintained over the entire operational time, thus enabling its use in a wide range of demanding commercial applications.
