Product developer and contract manufacturer of toiletries and colour cosmetics is expanding its research and development team to establish a hair care division

COSi, a European product developer and contract manufacturer of toiletries and colour cosmetics, is expanding its research and development team to establish a hair care division and build on its current expertise in skincare Tony Gough, a member of the Society of Cosmetic Scientists Council and the Royal Society of Chemistry, has been appointed as head of the global hair care division

With more than 15 years experience, gained at Unilever and Alberto-Culver, in hair care research and product development, his expertise in generating new technical knowledge and creating technical learning material has led to the development of many new innovative products.

Gough is also a visiting lecturer in cosmetic science at the London Arts University's College of Fashion.

Joining Gough's team is Vanessa Crawley.

With a PhD in chemistry, Vanessa has worked previously in research and development on brands such as VO5, Tresemme and Alberto Balsam, for Alberto Culver and also Gillette.

Darren Edwards, again a member of the Society of Cosmetic Scientists Council, is a new addition to the skincare division.

Joining from Meller Beauty, where he was head of innovation, as R and D senior product development scientist Edwards's 14 years experience of research, formulation and manufacture in the personal care industry will be invaluable in the creation of innovative concepts, says COSi.

In recognition of the growing importance of cosmeceuticals and nutraceuticals, COSi has seconded Steve Ingram from its South African pharmaceutical division, to share his knowledge.

Dave Tashjian, COSi technical director, said: "I am thrilled with these new appointments.

"This broad breadth of experience will help to shape COSi's focus on the provision of innovative products for our global customer base".

COSi develops and manufactures colour cosmetics and toiletries for major brand owners all over the world from its two plants in the UK.

Plants in South Africa also contract manufacture pharmaceuticals and household products.

The company was founded in 1992 and now employs over 2000 people.
