The visual circle polarimeter is designed to suit both novice and experienced users.
Rotating the large diameter 360 degree Vernier scale and comparing the half shadows from the polariser and analyser is all that is required for analysis.
Inexperienced operators will be able to measure +/-180 degrees with an accuracy of 0.1deg, while 0.05deg is possible for the practised user.
A comfortable working position that allows extended working sessions is achieved by tilting the scale, polariser and analyser.
Sodium and mercury light and filter sets allow the polarimeter to operate at 589nm and 546nm.
The optional UP1 model may be fitted with a halogen light and interference filter to define the wavelength or with a spectral lamp.
