Dionex has released an application note detailing an improved method for determining concentrations of cefepime and related substances in pharmaceutical formulas.
One of the main advantages of using PepMap is the fact that only one-tenth the concentration of TFA in the mobile phase is required.
As a rule, TFA concentration needs to be only as high as 0.005% to achieve symmetric peaks.
With PepMap, it is even possible to exchange the TFA with aspetic acid, 0.05%.
In both cases an increased signal/noise ratio is achieved, especially when using an ESI-MS detector.
Due to these characteristics, PepMap is suited for separation of peptide mixtures, obtained by, for instance, tryptic digestion of proteins.
This is even more relevant when using a mass spectrometer as detector.
