pH sensor goes digital

An Endress + Hauser product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Jun 11, 2004

Digital pH sensor is the first on the market to allow important process data to be saved directly in the sensor, guaranteeing interference-free measuring signals

Endress+Hauser says its new MemoSens digital pH sensor is the first sensor on the market to allow important process data to be saved directly in the sensor.

This inductive, two-way data transfer between sensor and transmitter guarantees interference-free measuring signals and revolutionary simplification of process measuring technology.

Until today, only the symptoms of plug-in system problems such as moisture ingress, leakages, corrosion, salt bridges, ground loops and handling have been treated.

For the first time, MemoSens actually eliminates these problems via its inductive, non-contact plug-in connection and bayonet lock, offering complete galvanic isolation.

The sensor's unique advantages derive from its integrated circuit board, which offers a wealth of possibilities - manufacturing data, current sensor properties and sensor history can be recorded and used as a basis for predictive maintenance.

Calibration data is stored, along with other important data such as overall time in operation, maximum and minimum pH value, maximum and minimum temperature.

MemoSens sensors can be pre-calibrated under optimum conditions in the laboratory and then simply replaced in the measuring point - eliminating the problems associated with difficult-to-access measuring points.

The sensors identify themselves within the application - each measuring point recognises its individual sensor, providing a significant reduction in downtime.

MemoSens also offers cost-saving potential.

Sensors that once had to be thrown away can now be checked and regenerated, eg by cleaning in the laboratory, so that sensor lifetime is considerably increased.

Thanks to the pre-calibration, calibration under soiled or moist conditions is unnecessary.

This reduces work in hazardous areas to a minimum.
