With a minimal number of moving parts in the optical detection module, the result is a real-time PCR system that is more robust and faster than filter systems

The Mastercycler EP Realplex is, says Eppendorf, a remarkable real-time PCR system that makes a critical contribution to scientific research.

Fast, accurate and easy to use, Eppendorf's Realplex brings significant advances in quantitative PCR technology.

Excitation is achieved by an array of 96 individual LEDs which have a substantially longer lifespan than halogen lamps.

With a minimal number of moving parts in the optical detection module, the result is a real-time PCR system that is more robust and faster than filter systems.

Consistently high sensitivity and reproducibility of results are maintained, while equipment downtime and associated delays to experiments are minimised.

The Mastercycler EP Realplex features a distinguished, high quality finish combined with a solid yet compact engineered design for quiet operation.

Two thermomodules are available: standard or high-speed with Impulse PCR and extremely fast heating and cooling rates.

Both can be combined with two different optical modules, enabling the use of almost all the fluorescent dyes used in real-time PCR.

As Cynthia Potter, Eppendorf UK qPCR applications specialist, explains, usability is also an important attribute of the new system: "An intuitive user interface ensures fast PCR and assay set-up, and simple transfer of protocols from other real-time PCR systems.

"For the greatest flexibility in experimental design and data analysis, the Realplex offers a completely open system concept and a total of six different software modules".

Eppendorf UK, headquartered in Cambridge, is a subsidiary of Eppendorf, Hamburg, Germany, a supplier of systems and research tools for the biotechnology industry.

With over 1700 employees on four continents, Eppendorf achieved a turnover of almost £200m (euro286.5m) in 2004 and operating profits (Ebit) of £28m (euro40.1m).
