New techniques for drug discovery
The development of a number of new techniques to address the need for more relevant property data earlier in the drug development process
ESA Analytical has recently announced the development of a number of new techniques to address the need for more relevant property data earlier in the drug development process These techniques are based on the observation that nature has chosen oxidative processes for signal transduction, metabolism of drugs and maintaining cell stability

A number of mechanisms of toxicity also involve oxidative or reductive intermediates.
Oxidative stress is a common mechanism of disease and a target of drug development.
Although only a small percentage of the world's molecules are easily oxidised, a large percentage, in excess of 80%, of marketed drugs can be easily oxidised.
Using ESA's strong knowledge of electrochemistry and combining it with mass spectrometry, these new techniques can lead to a decrease in late stage attrition and a more cost effective drug development process.
A series of posters are available describing these new techniques entitled: Use of Coulometric Array Voltammetry for high-throughput estimation of chemical stability to oxidative degradation of pharmaceutical libraries; Use of Voltammetric Mass Spectrometry in high-throughput predictive metabolism; Use of Voltammetric Mass Spectometry in high-throughput predictive toxicology and Use of Coulometric Array HPLC in Metabolomics.
