The database has also been re-structured in order to make searching easier and more effective.
New topics have been added in the areas of safety data, spectra, electrical properties, solution behaviour, and optical and electrical data; new compound types have been incorporated, including biomolecules, mixtures and polymers; and to create a more systematic, user-friendly data structure existing fields have been reorganised.
The new pharmacological and ecological data subject area is in addition to the existing areas of toxicity, biological function and ecological data, which have all been moved into the new structure.

New pharmaceutical and nutraceutical databases
FIZ Karlsruhe has announced the launch of the Pharmaml and Nutraceut databases, sourced from an international network of correspondents
Beilstein is a major organic chemistry database consisting of structure and factual information from the highly-regarded Beilstein handbook (covering the literature from 1779 to 1959), and combined with the primary organic chemistry literature from 1960 onwards (currently 120 journals).
To provide comprehensive coverage of the new pharmacological and ecological data subject area 60 extra journals have also now been added.
Since 1979 detailed information for all physical and chemical properties has been abstracted from the literature and added as separate data fields that contain both the data themselves, and the appropriate references.
By searching on the Beilstein file on STN scientists and information professionals can access the most comprehensive collection of organic chemical information available.
Searches can be conducted on both chemical structures and reactions, as well as on associated chemical and physical properties, including - now - pharmacological and ecological data.
Relevant structures, reactions, and detailed factual data, as well as bioactive compounds and comprehensive pharmacological and ecological data, can be retrieved and viewed online.
Specific factual data available include melting point, boiling point, density, refractive index, optical rotary power, isolation from natural product, and chemical derivative.
Following the reload the Beilstein database now contains approximately 8.1 million substances, including the 1.1 million compounds from the Beilstein handbook.
The database will be updated quarterly. Request a free brochure from FIZ Karlsruhe, STN Europe ...
