New biosequence database launched
Nucleotide and amino acid sequence database jointly produced by Fiz Karlsruhe and Wipo released
Fiz Karlsruhe, a provider of information services, and European partner of premier science and technology online service STN International, has announced the launch of the PCTGEN database, an important new source of nucleotide and amino acid sequence information Containing sequence and patent application information submitted electronically to the World Intellectual Property Organisation (Wipo), PCTGEN includes both the nucleotide and peptide sequences themselves, as well as associated bibliographic data - as provided by patent applicants

Beilstein database enhanced
Major organic chemistry database of over eight million substances now includes pharmacological and ecological data, as well as a number of new topics
More specifically, records include the following fields: accession number, title, document type, molecule type, patent assignee, patent and application information, organism species, sequence, sequence length, and feature table.
Jointly produced by Fiz Karlsruhe and Wipo, PCTGEN currently contains around 1.5 million records from August 2001 to date, including 1.2 million nucleic acid and 0.3 million peptide sequences.
PCTGEN is updated weekly, with new sequence information entering the database shortly after publication by Wipo.
As such, the database provides a very high degree of currency.
Users can also conduct current awareness alerts (SDIs), as well as sequence homology alerts, on a weekly basis.
STN International can be accessed by dialling directly into STN Classic, the proprietary online service, utilising the powerful client software STN Express with Discover, or via STN on the web using a standard web browser.
Both access modes provide searchers with a set of dedicated sequence search tools to enable them conduct powerful, accurate searches.
Sequence searching in PCTGEN will also be integrated into STN on the web's Sequence Search Assistant, a user-friendly interface designed for those unfamiliar with traditional command-line searching. Request a free brochure from FIZ Karlsruhe, STN Europe ...
