Power protection at Orange County
forensics lab
Franek Technologies Installs ten more power protection systems at the forensics science laboratory of the Orange County sheriff's department, USA
Now with 12 critical PCR and genetic analysers, valued at approximately $1 million, protected by Franek, the Orange County sheriff's department ensures reliability of forensic testing for crime-scene investigations for all 46 cities within the county As a result of these installations, key instrumentation at the state-of-the-art laboratory is protected against power fluctuations or failure that could otherwise cause loss of irreplaceable crime-related samples and data, costly damage to instrumentation, as well as significant lost productive time

With this latest installation of customised, instrumentation-grade power protection systems (with 30-60 minute extended run-time depending on the application), Franek Technologies now protects the forensic science laboratory's significant investment in ABI 3130 genetic analysers, ABI 7500 PRC high-speed systems, ABI 9700 PCR systems, and ABI 310 genetic analysers.
Like other forensic science laboratories, this laboratory is extremely vulnerable to power fluctuations, even those lasting as little as 30 milliseconds, due to the complexity and sensitivity of its instrumentation and automated equipment.
Providing this level of certified power protection is especially important with forensic testing since sample volume is often extremely limited making a rerun due to suspect instrument performance impossible.

Tasked with providing forensic science services for Orange County is no small task.
As the second most populous county in the state of California and the fifth most populous in the USA, its population is approaching three million residents.
The Orange County sheriff department forensic science laboratory serves the criminal justice needs of all 34 incorporated cities, and an additional 12 unincorporated communities, within the county by applying sound scientific principles to the collection, evaluation, and interpretation of physical evidence.
To ensure its ability to serve and protect the county, the higher level of power protection provided by Franek Technologies was considered mission critical for the forensic science laboratory.
Orange County is situated at the center of southern California's 'Tech Coast', as well as the home of the Disneyland Resort and Knott's Berry Farm.
It has also been popularised by television shows such as The OC and Laguna Beach.
Maintaining the safety of this popular tourist and life-science development center is important for the economic growth of the 46 communities supported by the Orange County sheriff's department forensic science laboratory.
"As a locally based company, we are pleased that the OC Sheriff's Department, along with the many forensic organisations we serve, has chosen Franek Technologies again to protect their key DNA instrumentation" states Ray Hecker, vice president, Franek Technologies.
