Fisher Scientific wins environmental award

A Fisher Scientific UK product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Nov 27, 2008

The Green Organisation has awarded the Green Apple Gold Award for Environmental Best Practice to Fisher Scientific for its laboratory-chemical bottle collection, wash and recycling facility.

The award was presented at the House of Commons on 10 November 2008.

Fisher Scientific collects used bottles and associated packaging from customers before washing, drying and inspecting the bottles to ensure they can be re-used.

This programme handles 500,000 glass and plastic-coated glass bottles a year.

Approximately 50 per cent of the bottles are suitable for reuse: the rest go to recycling companies to be crushed and melted down into other glass products.

This programme demonstrates Fisher Scientific's commitment to becoming a sustainable business and to reduce its customers' waste.

The Green Organisation is an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environment group dedicated to promoting environmental best practice around the world.
