Water baths for obesity and diabetes research

Grant Instruments has partnered with Scientific Laboratory Supplies, a scientific equipment distributor, to equip a large laboratory with a bank of modern, high performance digital water baths

Grant Sub Aqua water baths have been installed for use by scientists at the University of Cambridge Institute of Metabolic Science Metabolic Research Laboratories (IMS - MRL), based on the Addenbrooke's Hospital site in Cambridge, for growing tissue culture cells to assist research into child obesity and diabetes.

"We specified Grant baths because they are renowned for their quality, reliability and precision temperature control which is important in biological applications," said Svitlana Korolchuk, chief technician at MRL.

"The new baths look good, they are also very easy-to-use and to clean, and all the models feature a new translucent polycarbonate lid which limits evaporation, reduces contamination and allows our technicians to keep an eye on the samples".

Sub Aqua baths are available in a wide range of stainless steel tank sizes and feature user-settable sample protection and fixed thermal cut-out so both samples and users are protected.

The digital programming is simple and intuitive and the temperature control circuitry provides quick heat-up and precision control throughout the temperature range (ambient +5C to 99C).
