Oil free evaporators based on scroll pump, making them ideal for use in harsh chemistry environments, are to take centre stage at the Munich show in May

Genevac has announced that the new scroll pump versions of its high-performance HT series centrifugal evaporators will take centre stage at Analytica 2004 in Munich (11-14 May) The main advantage of the new scroll pump driven centrifugal evaporators is that they are dry, and therefore do not require any pumping fluid or lubricant in order to operate

This in turn makes them ideal for use in harsh chemistry environments such as combinatorial high throughput chemistry and drug discovery, where corrosive or volatile solvents are frequently used.

The scroll pump takes its name from the design of the pump head, where a series of crescent shaped scrolls cut into an oscillating rotor are used to repeatedly compress and uncompress decompress the gas or vapour to be pumped.

The powerful HT-series centrifugal evaporators offer unmatched speed of evaporation, shorter condenser defrost time, more powerful software and the flexibility to accommodate a wider range of sample formats than any other systems in their class.

The company will also be displaying its EZ-2 personal evaporator system.

The EZ-2 now accommodates a wide selection of sample holders enabling evaporation from most common sample container formats including round-bottom flasks up to 500ml, tubes up to 160mm long, custom reaction blocks and shallow or deep-well microplates.

To meet the need of the many pharmaceutical companies switching their compound generation programmes from serial chemistry to parallel synthesis, the EZ-2 is also able to take tubes, flasks and vials directly from the synthesis process, eliminating a manual handling step, increasing recoveries and removing the chance of cross contamination.
