Geneus in research at Hospital for Sick Children

A Genologics product story
Edited by the Laboratorytalk editorial team Feb 22, 2007

GenoLogics reports that the Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute has selected Geneus to manage its genomics workflows and assist with collaborative stem cell research across nine laboratories

Geneus is the latest lab and scientific data management product from GenoLogics.

Specially designed to address genomics challenges, Geneus is a robust Lims built on an open, configurable informatics platform that acts as the 'central nervous system' within a discovery lab.

The Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute (SickKids), a leading edge research facility based in Toronto, will install an early version of Geneus in the first half of this year.

They will use Geneus to handle workflows such as microarray, flow cytometry, and RNA preparation, and to track project and sample data.

SickKids was able to purchase Geneus with funding from Genome Canada through the Ontario Genomics Institute.

Cynthia Guidos, lead investigator at Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute, commented: "Using this technology we expect to see operational efficiency gains between our lab and nine other collaborating labs, and improved project and sample tracking management".

"We look forward to working closely with Dr Guidos's team to implement a genomics solution for their lab that will meet their needs and improve overall lab operations," said Jason Wilson, genomics product manager at GenoLogics.

"We intend to work collaboratively with the team at SickKids to further develop features and capabilities".

Geneus, an enterprise solution for lab and data management, includes science-specific modules that are purposed for multiple platforms within genomics application areas.

It also includes integrations to various genomics instruments and software.

Geneus Early Access is being installed today in genomics labs to manage a variety of genotyping and gene expression workflows including TaqMan processes.

The next version of Geneus will include integrations to the Affymetrix GeneChip platform.

Geneus is built on an open, configurable, adaptable platform to accommodate evolving technologies and changes in lab operations, yet it is customisable in order to accommodate specific workflows within individual labs.

It provides IT managers with a single flexible platform that supports multiple labs, sciences and facilities.
