This year, GenoLogics is actively supporting the Canary Derby by building a soapbox car and organising fundraising activities over the past three months

GenoLogics Life Sciences Software will hold a live public auction on 5 June 2007 at the Vancouver Island Technology Park, to raise funds for the Canary Derby, a technology community soapbox race and fundraising drive to raise money for early detection cancer research through the BC Cancer Foundation The employees have split into four competing teams

Each team is gathering items and services that will be auctioned off to raise money for the GenoLogics team, which is in competition with other tech company teams participating in the Canary Derby soapbox races.

The top fundraising company will win a trip to the San Jose Grand Prix as a VIP guest of Don Listwin, owner of the San Jose Grand Prix and founder of the Canary Foundation.

Last year GenoLogics placed second to Caramanah Technologies in this competition, and this year it aims to beat them with a fundraising goal of over C$10,000.

Since the Canary Derby kick-off, the GenoLogics fundraising core team has dreamed up numerous ways to raise money for the Derby.

"We have organised a poker tournament, an NHL play-off hockey pool, an America's Next Top Model pool, a toonie drive, weekly bottle collection, a baby pool, a hairy face race, in-house video rentals, and a combination silent and live auction.

"We've also collected donations from suppliers, all to help us reach our fundraising goal," commented Pandora Sharples, technical service lead and a fundraising leader.

Other GenoLogics fundraising leaders include Dylan Hansen, Hayley Fong, Sameer Girn, and Michael Artemiw.

The Canary Derby, which takes place on 16 June at the VI Technology Park, was conceived by the employees at GenoLogics in 2006 as a grass roots initiative with a great vision - landing the company the Community Involvement Award last year at the 2006 Viatec Awards.

As a result of this employee-driven initiative, GenoLogics teamed up with Viatec, and VITP and BC Cancer Foundation to organise a fun technology community event in support of a great cause everyone could support - the early detection of cancer.
